After a mere 4.5 million years apart, Ranginui and Papatūānuku have decided it’s time to give it another shot. The divorce counsellor has concerns, as do their children and grandchildren. In a family meeting we discover how Ngā Atua Māori (the Māori Gods) and other mythological beings from Aotearoa have reinvented themselves in the modern world. Some have accumulated much influence in Te Ao Mārama (the world of light) and rumours of Rangi and Papa reuniting are affecting their investments. Others feel forgotten, living in poverty. What do they have to lose by embracing the dark side of the force, Te Pō?

‘Glimmer’ puts us on the edge where light and darkness, past and present, meet. Voices emerge from the Auckland streets in this debut play from Jason Te Kare, which weaves together a series of monologues performed by a tour de force cast of Auckland Maori actors in a rotating cast.
