The Basement is showing off its colours to celebrate Auckland Pride Festival. From 11th to 15th of February The Basement will be hosting its own mini-Pride Festival with five theatre works that reflect and celebrate the LGBTI community.

To open the week is Legacy Project which is a development series featuring six short plays created by local writers and directors. These theatrical stories are new works discussing a range of experiences in the New Zealand LGBTI community.

Brazilian drag diva Rhubarb Rouge will transform Upstairs at The Basement into a BDSM dungeon with Lashings of Whipped Cream.

Dynamotion Dance Troupe are back at The Basement once again to perform their new Pride-inspired show Purple Rainbow. Following the induction of the marriage bill, New Zealand is being overrun with zombies…the gay apocalypse has arrived!

Teen Faggots Come to Life tells five stories of teenage superheroes. Sponsored by the Mika Haka Foundation these are true stories performed by transgendered, gay, Fa’afafine, Fakaleiti and bisexual Maori and Pacific Island performing artists.

Site-specific theatre will be taking over The Basement carpark with Riding in Cars with (Mostly Straight) Boys. Playwright Sam Brooks breaks out of the theatre - setting his new work inside a car.

The Basement are supporting the LGBTI family in New Zealand and we are super proud! Just as love knows no boundaries neither do these Basement shows.
