What can we expect from the show?
Something electric. Something physical. Something visceral. In a c*nt kinda way. But very much something specific to the context of queer / trans bodies here in New Zealand and using the veichle of Vogue Culture to speak towards these themes.
What inspired the show?
Frustration. Mykki Blanco’s ep The Illuminati Princess and the need to be in control over my artistic life.
How New Zealand specific is the culture you explore, versus local variants of international trends?
Well firstly its not a trend. Its a lifestyle. I am a Banji Cunt, and what that means is that I get mine when I want mine. Upholding myself financially, spiritually , emotionally and physically strong, and not needing anyone else to fill up my cup.
What reaction are you hoping the show gets?
I don’t know. I don’t think about that when I make something. I know that the work I want to speak directly to the girls. Because this is who its for. But in terms of the general audience consensus, I hope the show changes waistlines and health diets. Meaning taking control over your own destiny.
Don’t miss your last chance to see FEMSLICK, on now at The Basement, until 18 Feb.
