Basement play science!

Posted on July 6, 2014 by Basement

5 workshops of upcoming Basement plays.

The Basement’s Play Science! is a script development initiative for new plays that are programmed in our theatre.

The Basement is dedicated to the development of emerging work. We want to nurture artists that present work in our theatre and think it is essential to support our up and coming playwrights. And we want to contribute to a culture of critical engagement by providing them with opportunities to craft their work in a low risk environment in advance of their season.

The writers along with their director and cast will be given a dramaturg and two, one day workshops to delve into the text, test-run their work and get audience feedback. Basement Play Science! workshops will take place over two Saturdays and will give the playwright a week in-between to develop their work and produce a new draft.

Basement Play Science! is for shows that are scheduled to be presented at The Basement. We are looking at holding five workshops in 2014.

Every workshop will be tailored to the individual playwright & script and may include a public reading. We give artists the option to do their workshop 2-6 months before their season.
