Fake American Accent is a monthly poetry event in which a group of New Zealand writers respond to an assigned quote, text, or slice of pop culture. We're just out here trying to cite our sources.
$5-$10 sliding scale at the door! In the Studio Upstairs!
With help from Auckland Council Creative Communities Scheme
Fake American Accent is a riff on the homogenisation of "performance poetry" by the likes of globalisation and Youtube, in which kids look to American idols before realising the huge amount of talent we have in our own backdoor. We're trying to create a space that validates the place of literature on stage, that challenges the boundaries of what "poetry" could look like, and present new work by emerging and established talent.
