The Watercooler - Issue #58: Life Stories From Deaf Youth

The Watercooler in partnership with Merge NZ presents its Deaf Edition

The Watercooler in partnership with Merge NZ presents its Deaf Edition, back by popular demand after a sell-out event in 2018. This time round we’re highlighting “Life Stories from Deaf Youth”. We’ve all had awkward first dates, crappy teachers in high school and regrettable outfits to our school ball- they’re rites of passage – but how does this play out when you’re Deaf?

This evening of conversation will offer a new perspective about being Deaf, and will help all of us have a more in depth understanding about other people’s journeys in relation to access to information and easy communication.

Join Saynab Muse, Eric Matthews and Monari Falepeau as they share their experiences with us. This panel will be hosted by Zachary Best.

Our presenting partner Merge NZ is a Deaf-led company that promotes NZSL and Deaf culture within Auckland. They aim to expand this throughout New Zealand to ensure the promotion and preservation of this unique language

There will be NZSL interpreters, interpreting NZSL into audible English, at this show.

This event is proudly supported by the Ministry of Social Development’s Office for Disability Issues and the New Zealand Sign Language Board.
