The Wedding: Return Season

Show Info

Meet our Grooma frightened young man coerced by his overbearing mother to marry his distant cousin, the daughter of the wealthiest man in town. As he enters the dark mysterious church he is greeted by the wedding party, which includes The Father of The Bride (a repulsive man obsessed with his wealth), The Servant (a hopeless romantic with a wonky mustache) The Maidservant (a ‘chaste’ young woman with wandering eyes), and The Priest (a holy man of God with suspiciously distinctive facial hair).

Don’t miss this second chance to catch this beautiful paradox of a show, which brings to the stage an absurd and anarchic energy. Through their use of ridiculous characters, extreme gags and soap opera backstories, A Fool’s Company have created a truly unique piece of theatre which will make you gasp in terror, laugh until you wee, and finally, question the traditions we hold sacred. The Wedding is a devised concept by members of A Fool’s Company; Aaron Richardson, Melissa Cameron, Georgie Llewellyn, Emily Hurley and Kyle Shields alongside director Grace Augustine, and produced by Charlie Underhill

This Summer season of The Wedding will be a dedicated fundraiser season, with the final profit share being dedicated to funding A Fool’s Company to travel to Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2023. A Fool’s Company will also be taking part in Basement Theatre and iTICKET’s Pay What You Can pricing initiative, allowing audiences to literally pay what they can for their tickets, giving wider financial access to some, and allowing others to give more directly to these artists - paying what they can to support this work!
Make sure to book your tickets early and help A Fool’s Company bring their special brand of silly across the ditch for Melbourne Fringe 2023!

“Laughter will come in waves, the initial laughs of delight and genuine surprise promoting secondary self-conscious giggles. It is a real credit to the performers and the direction that this rollicking show can also find moments of real pathos and genuine emotion amidst the stitch inducing plot.” - Irene Corbett for Theatre Scenes.

"The Wedding has the explosive energy of an improv show, but with a sharp-shooter delivery. It voiced many of my own feelings about the church and marriage, all while making me laugh non-stop.” - Aidan Dayvyd for RATWORLD Magazine

Like many strong relationships, ours was founded in collective trauma. Oops sorry, we meant love for art.

Our company members have trained internationally in Balinese Mask, Physical Theatre and Commedia dell'Arte and enjoy working with Aerial Circus, Handbalance, Puppetry and Clown. Since our first project in 2017 we have created four original shows and a roving street act. We believe our work has developed a unique flavour over the years and encourage you to indulge in a free sample...or three.
