Tea with Terrorists

Show Info

A roller-coaster ride of dark comedy and delicious storytelling.

Sharing stories from a life that straddles two very different cultures; arguing with mullahs; being an atheist in a religious, liberal family; planning the perfect murder; wandering outside the green zone in war torn Kabul; being stalked by a sheep in Coniston; and having tea with some terrorists in Kashmir.

Journey with Sameena to find out why fear is redundant, joy is essential, and terrorists can be a real hoot.

Sameena Zehra is an award winning performer, writer, director and blues singer/songwriter. Before moving to Aotearoa, Sameena lived in the UK where she has performed at the National Theatre, and toured internationally with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

‘A master storyteller...’ * * * * Three Weeks, Edinburgh

‘...an intimate atmosphere with all the warmth, energy and enthusiasm of a full house at the Apollo... Fluency, intensity and vivacity...’* * * * The Age, Melbourne

‘Sameena Zehra is a gifted storyteller. Someone you are instantly drawn to. You listen for the heart, humour and wisdom. And it’s simply a beautiful, funny and moving experience’.

Simon Sweetman, Off the Tracks, Te Whanganui-a-Tara

The Magnificent Weirdos was formed in 2020, with the objective of putting access and inclusion at the heart of making art. Our belief is that

Art is the manifest expression of philosophy, and philosophy is the template for how we choose to live in the world.

Art is how we express our humanity, and how we access the humanity of others.

Everyone deserves the right to art. To make it, to experience it, to share it.

Art should be accessible.

Art should be inclusive.

Art should be commonplace - an everyday activity, much like flying is for bees.
