Venue Hire
When Basement isn’t providing a home to emerging and independent artists through our hire-for-nothing programme, we have space available for all kinds of events - a two-week full venue takeover, a one-night gig or corporate event, a filming location, or a book club that just needs a cosy nook.
We have two flexible, black box performance and event spaces, the Theatre (up to 120 seats) and Studio (up to 65 seats, not wheelchair accessible), as well as our unique bar. Multi-day hires are generally fixed at seven days running from Sunday - Saturday, however, we may consider other hire periods if it fits with our programming.
We programme the majority of our spaces four - five months in advance, so if you’re planning an event or performative work it’s best to get in touch as early as possible. Or if you’re flexible when it comes to dates and times and you just want to try your luck for a more low key event then make contact with us and we’ll see what we can do! If your event is within the next six weeks, it will be pretty tricky for us to squeeze you in, but give us a call on 09 309 7433 between 9-5 as we will have to check our availability right away.
We’re also the guardians of Makers Space, a rehearsal, workshop and event space a stone’s throw from the venue, which can be booked with a few days notice. Please note this cannot be booked as a performance space.
Both spaces are “black box” style and can be reconfigured into a variety of seating plans and stage layouts.
THEATRE
Seats 100. 15.1m long x 8.6m wide x 2.5m elevation. Bench seating. Concrete floor.

Basement Makers Space is a performing arts community space that Basement Theatre feels privileged to govern, and we are excited to be able to offer affordable rates to artists. Makers Space is a large, flexible space that is perfect for rehearsing, workshops, auditions, table reads, production meetings etc. It's also great for workshops and other meetings, although please note we give preference to community arts, theatre and performance hirers.
Please note the space is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
