Nau mai haere mai! Here are a few tips to Basement to get you feeling like a regular punter. Our venue hosts and bar staff are also available to chat and answer any further questions.
We have two theatre spaces. The Theatre is located at the back of the bar. The Studio is upstairs and its entrance is located through a doorway to your right as you enter the bar.
Doors for the show generally open 10 minutes before start time. Sometimes we may be a little later. Our venue host will do an announcement when the doors are open.
When entering the theatre, you will be greeted by an usher. You can show them your printed ticket or digital ticket on your phone. If you need to print your ticket, ask one of our venue hosts. If your phone needs a charge they can help with that too.
A lockout means that you will not be able to enter the theatre once the show has started. If you are running late, you can call ahead or message a friend to let us know. We can often hold closing the doors (within a reasonable time) so you don’t miss out.
Sold out show? Speak to our venue hosts to be put on the waitlist.
They may be able to get you in if there is space just before the show is about to start.
You’re welcome to take drinks into the theatre with you. Not seeing a show? Our bar is open to anyone, not just audiences. We just can’t serve minors (obvs.)
Access needs? A bar staff member or venue host is happy to help.
Or, get clued up before you arrive by heading to the Access page.
Head down to the bottom of Greys Ave. Before you go into the Civic underground car park, swing a right and head down the hill.
We’re smack bang in the middle of the city, which means heaps of public transport options! Visit the Auckland Transport website to find the best option for you.
Basement’s bar is open 5:30pm - late; Tuesday through Saturday.
As a public space where important cultural conversations are held about our society, we want to ensure that everyone can participate - artists, audience and staff.
Check out what's on and book your tickets with our friends at iTICKET.

The government mandates may be gone, but our frenemy covid (and a bunch of other nasty flus) are still hanging around. So when you come to visit Basement, remember:
😷 Our spaces are small and lack airflow, so consider wearing a mask while watching a show.
🏠 If you are feeling sick, please stay home. We don’t want you to miss out on the show, so head here for information on what to do if you have a ticket and can’t attend.
