Show Info

Winner of the Theatre category, nominated for Best in Fringe, and Dance/Cabaret/Physical Theatre at Dunedin Fringe Festival 2024.”

An original documentary theatre piece created with real-life stories of migrant workers living in New Zealand.

'We, The Outsiders' is a thought-provoking theatrical experience that sheds light on the diverse challenges migrants face in New Zealand — from trying to fit in and learning new languages to adapting to entirely new cultures.

We spoke to 30 immigrants in New Zealand with English as a second language in order to create this documentary theatre show. It explores identity, belonging, and integration through a collection of interviews, testimonies, and dramatised retellings. The production blends storytelling, original music, and multimedia elements.

'We, The Outsiders' aims to spark in-depth conversations about who migrates to Aotearoa and why.

Directed by Romina Meneses and presented by South Arts Collective in collaboration with Believable Arts Management.

First produced at BATS Theatre, Wellington, on the 31st of January 2024.

Romina Meneses founded South Arts Collective in 2020 with the purpose of promoting performing arts for fringe communities. Her focus is empowering non-professional performers from different communities and backgrounds through theatrical practice.

Tom Smith and Jimmy Williamson started Believable Arts Management in 2023 to provide production management support to emerging creatives, allowing artists to focus on the art, not the admin.
