Monster of the Week with ATC Youth Company and A Slightly Isolated Dog

Show Info

ATC Youth Company presents
MONSTER OF THE WEEK by A Slightly Isolated Dog
1 – 4 October 2025 | Basement Theatre

What begins as ironic binge-watching slips into obsession.

In the cult 90s teen series Monster of the Week, a new girl battled demons, mean girls, and the apocalypse — one episode at a time.

Decades later, five friends in Auckland discover the long-lost VHS tapes. As they binge through the night, the neon camp of 90s TV begins to seep into their own lives.

Monster of the Week drifts between eras, genres, and realities — a cult meta-horror and a study of the stories we carry with us.

Written and directed by A Slightly Isolated Dog (Our Own Little Mess, Jekyll & Hyde) Monster of the Week will be brought to life by Auckland Theatre Company's Youth Company.

ABOUT THE YOUTH COMPANY
Our Youth Company is a part-time, year-long programme offered free to participants aged 18 to 25. Our Youth Company lets young people learn in a working theatre, feel comfortable in this space, and train in an environment that acknowledges the enormous strength and resilience it takes to be an artist.

Youth Company is proudly supported by Youth Company Supporters Group.

ABOUT A SLIGHTLY ISOLATED DOG
A Slightly Isolated Dog is led by Artistic Director Leo Gene Peters.

They are well known for their international hits, Don Juan, Jekyll and Hyde, and The Trojan War. Their work has toured around the world, from all over NZ and Australia, to the UK, Ireland, Beijing and Edinburgh Fringe. These shows are fast and furious, mashing up styles of sketch comedy, music gig, physical theatre, and wit.

Their shows exist on a continuum, from highly explosive and high octane to extremely intimate and thoughtful experiences. All the works look to engage audiences’ imaginations and playfulness in a process of communal reflection through sharing live performance.

Other previous works include Monsters Made by Monsters (Unitec), Our Own Little Mess (ANZIAF), Slay/Save the Dragon, Safety in Numbers, Death & the Dreamlife of Elephants, and Perfectly Wasted (LCYT).

They have been creating new devised theatre since 2006.
